Why UK Personal Finance Needed a Different Voice
Bert Hofhuis grew up in the Netherlands and built his early career in international logistics and corporate finance. Over three decades, he managed complex projects across Africa, Asia, and Europe — from UK DFID development programmes in East Africa to EU-funded logistics infrastructure in Turkey, and Maersk container freight operations in Djibouti.
Through every posting, one pattern repeated: the people who needed financial guidance the most were the least well served by the content available to them.
When Bert settled in the United Kingdom, he turned that observation into action. Starting in 2015, he founded a network of six UK personal finance media platforms — each one built to deliver the clear, trustworthy information that people approaching retirement deserve but rarely find.
His platforms now cover the full spectrum of later-life finance: pensions, SIPPs, equity release, lifetime mortgages, savings, investments, banking, insurance, and financial independence. He has authored three books on the subject and is regularly quoted by national and international media.
